American vs European Basset Hounds
What is the difference between the two?
The biggest difference is the skin. The Euros have a lot of extra skin that makes
them droopy and cute as they are well known for. They have a heavier build, lower to the ground, and bigger feet. Their bloodlines are imported from Europe which make them more expensive , so prices will vary from one litter to the next depending on percentage of European bloodline.
Whether American or European, Basset Hounds make wonderful family pets that are great with children.
The Basset Hound was originally bred in France for hunting rabbits.
Their sense of smell for tracking is second only to the bloodhound.

Welcome to Heart of Texas Basset Hounds. We are located in Comanche, Texas. We have the perfect mix of American and European champion bloodlines, and all our dogs are AKC registered. It has taken me almost two years to find my foundation hounds. I am proud of my choices, and I know I am going to have some of the best litters available. My pups will make a perfect addition to your family, and definitely have show potential. When choosing my Basset Hounds, I followed the AKC standards as closely as possible, with a priority on good health and temperament.
